Abstract
This study was designed to evaluate the neuropsychological dysfunctions of frontal lobe in male alcoholic and schizophrenic patients.
Wisconsin card sorting test, Stroop color word test, Trail making test A, Verbal fluency test, and Block design and Comprehension Subtest of K-WAIS were administered to hospitalized male alcoholics(N=32) and schizophrenics(N=22) by DSM-III-R
criteria,
and control(N=28).
Alcoholic and schizophrenic patients had significantly lower overall performance than that of control group in all tests. There were no significant difference between alcoholic and schizophrenic patients on neuropsychological test except reading
word
printed I a color different from the color it named.
The results that alcoholic and schizophrenic had similar findings on neuropsychological test instead of different clinical features suggest possibility of similar brain lesion in both group.
